2016 Freedom Award
On Aug. 26, 15 businesses will receive the 2016 Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Freedom Award at a ceremony in the Pentagon. This award recognizes the unwavering support from these employers for their Guard and reserve employees actively serving their country. Join us in congratulating these recipients and thanking them for their commitment in support of our country.
As I arrived in March, I was truly touched by the level of expertise and dedication of the team of professionals who reside in our family of Manpower and Reserve Affairs. Each of our members is dedicated to a mission of service that supports our total force of active and reserve military, civilians, families and volunteers. I am humbled by their work!
There is still much to be done, and I am hopeful that each of our members will join me as we push for continued advances across the Defense Department. Moving our military and civilian policies to become more reflective of the society that we serve is a primary goal for me, and I am confident that we can set the path for future leaders to continue this important work. We have already made great strides through opening positions for women, removing many barriers for accessing civilians, improving our outreach to families, and yes, allowing our transgender service members to serve openly.
As we move forward, I challenge everyone within this highly visible and learning organization to dare to ask the tough questions. We need you to use your unique positions and perspectives to eliminate more barriers, create an environment that encourages the recruiting and retention of the best military and civilians, and recognize the sacrifices of our families.
Thank you all for being part of the M&RA family.
